Village Squares Quilters Donate Handmade Quilts
More than 2 dozen handmade quilts, created by members of Village Squares Quilters, were presented to Furniture Sharehouse on November 8, 2016. The guild voted to make Furniture Sharehouse the beneficiary of all quilts made by guild members as part of its "summer project".
Susan Wolman, president of Village Squares Quilters, said "VSQ has a long history of making quilts that we donate to good causes. When I read about how Furniture Sharehouse gives beds to clients, I thought how perfect it would be to give them quilts for those beds as well."
In the last five years alone, Village Squares Quilters have donated over 500 quilts to organizations helping those in need, including the Veterans' Home in Montrose, White Plains Hospital, Family Center of Fairfield County, Cortlandt Manor Nursing Home, Maria Fereri Children's Hospital and many others. VSQ also sponsors a program where members work with non-violent offenders at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, teaching women to quilt for their babies.
Kate Bialo, Executive Director of Furniture Sharehouse, said "We are very excited about being the lucky recipient of Village Squares Quilters' donated quilts this fall. Handmade quilts are something very special, and we know the families we serve will cherish them."
