What is Furniture Sharehouse?
Can you imagine . . . a child sleeping on the floor . . . a family with no table or chairs to share a meal . . . clothing and personal belongings stored in cardboard boxes . . .
Thankfully, most of us cannot.
Yet, every year in Westchester County, many are forced to live without even the most essential household furnishings because, after paying for rent and food, they have no money left over to buy the basic furniture many of us take for granted – the furnishings that make a house a home. These individuals and families include:
-
those moving out of homeless shelters into permanent housing
-
battered women and children escaping domestic violence
-
working families struggling to stay above the poverty line
-
young adults aging out of foster care
-
victims of fires or other natural disasters.
Furniture Sharehouse collects gently-used and new furniture from the general public and vendors and redistributes it free of charge to clients referred by member social service agencies, ensuring that it goes DIRECTLY to those who truly need it. We offer a free pick-up service and will provide you with a donation receipt for your taxes.
Won’t you help us make a house a home for a needy family in Westchester County? |
