Furniture Sharehouse has teamed up with the Larchmont Mamaroneck STEM Alliance to create a “Community Build” model that brings together young volunteers and experiences building to build small, attractive kitchen tables for Furniture Sharehouse clients. The Community Build was part of the STEM Alliance’s 2018 and 2019 STEM-Tastic Festivals held at Hommocks Middle School in Larchmont. “We are always in need of small kitchen tables”, says Furniture Sharehouse Executive Director, Kate Bialo, “and this Community Build model is a wonderful way to both obtain much-needed small tables while engaging the community and improving awareness for Furniture Sharehouse and it’s mission.”
Architect and woodworker Liam Winters of Mamaroneck donates his design skills, time and expertise to produce the table parts, and local community volunteers with building experience guide middle school student volunteers to assemble the tables in a fun and instructive way.
A grant from the Angelo Donghia Foundation two years in a row provides funds for the project. Thanks to everyone’s combined efforts, many families will now have the perfect kitchen table to share a meal in comfort and style.
