Fifteen years ago, Furniture Sharehouse didn’t exist, and hundreds of families escaping dire personal circumstances were sleeping on the floor and living in empty apartments because they couldn’t afford basic furniture. Now, thanks to Furniture Sharehouse, and our valued Member Agencies and generous supporters, more than 16,000 people, including over 7,800 children, are getting a good night’s sleep, sharing family meals at a table, keeping their belongings organized, and living in dignity and comfort.
We are still working with clients who have always needed our help over the years — people moving out of homelessness, escaping domestic violence, exiting prison, struggling with mental or physical disabilities, aging out of foster care, as well as senior citizens and veterans with limited income.
But now we have even more people who need our help — those who lost employment and/or housing due to the pandemic, those who lost all their belongings in the Hurricane Ida flooding, and the increasing number of refugees arriving daily in Westchester from Afghanistan and other countries, and soon from Ukraine.
We could not have reached this milestone without the support of so many — the County, our Member Agencies, community partners, furniture donors, generous financial supporters, and most importantly, our incredible volunteers, who have continued to bring their empathy and enthusiasm to helping our clients rebuild their lives with the comforts of home.
Thank you to them all!
